Now if that isn't a good way to start a conversation, we don't know what is. For every Blink-182 fan who's wondered whether the sk8ter-boy band's lyrics could successfully be used as pick-up lines, a new viral video shows that the answer is a resounding "no." Even the more innocent verses that sound like an elementary-school valentines ("This world's an ugly place, but you're so beautiful to me") just didn't sit right with the young women they were tested on.
Just as hilarious as the well-chosen lyrics ("I wore cologne to get the feeling right") are the girls' reactions, which range from polite confusion to snorts of laughter to "That's not something I'm comfortable with." But YouTuber tommycanpictureit -- the brave soul -- should thank his lucky stars that he didn't get hurt when entered a drugstore, picked up a pet leash in a drugstore and said to the unsuspecting female victim next to him: "I need a girl that I can train." Aside from just creeping out unsuspecting women, there was a important purpose to this social experiment. As the video's description explains, "For Blink-182's video contest to advertise for their European tour, I decided to try using Blink-182 lyrics on random girls in public and see how they work. Awkwardness ensues."
And it paid off -- Blink-182 announced on their Facebook page that Tommy Woolridge (aka tommycanpictureit) won the grand prize of lifetime tickets to every Blink-182 concert. The band added, "Hopefully you can use that as a pick-up line to get a date."
Last week, another YouTube fan contest resulted in a hilarious viral video (and quickly spurred its own meme!). For her submission to JB's "Girlfriend" competition, the Bieber fan created a parody of the song "Boyfriend," which tells of an overly-attached girlfriend who basically stalks her siggo.
