What does Gwen Stacy have in common with Katniss Everdeen?
Emma Stone recently revealed that she was inspired to play Gwen Stacy in "The Amazing Spider-Man" by "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence.
Initially, the 23-year-old was hesistant to commit to a blockbuster franchise, but hearing Lawrence speak about her similar concerns helped Stone with her decision.
"I love Jennifer Lawrence, and I watched a lot of her interviews for 'Hunger Games,'" Stone told Access Hollywood. "It was kind of the same thing she was feeling," she said, referring to the anxiety Lawrence felt taking on "Hunger Games" heroine Katniss Everdeen.
"What scared me was the idea of, 'What could happen to my life after doing something like this?' But the part and the process outweighed that fear."
"It felt like a stupid reason to not be part of this," Stone continued. "What might happen [and] how [my] life could change didn't feel like enough of a reason to not play Gwen, not to get to be involved with this and not to get to act with Andrew [Garfield] or to get to tell the story in a different way."
That's pretty much what Lawrence thought, as she told Moviefone earlier this year.
"It was funny because I've always been asked why did I always do indies, why didn't I do a big studio film. I always said, 'Because it's not about the size of the movie, it's about the script,'" she said. "When I was almost going to turn this down because it was too big, my mom told me I was being a hypocrite, because I loved the story, loved the characters and I truly believe in the message that these films are bringing. I think if you sign on to the right franchise [you're OK]."
Stone's "Amazing Spider-Man" co-star -- and current boyfriend -- Andrew Garfield probably agrees with that last part.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" is out in theaters on July 3.
