First, she's starred out the offending word. Secondly it's the title of Jay-Z's song and that's who she's tweeting too. Can you even suggest that it could be taken out of context by it's intended recipient? I mean everybody knows they're friends.

And what precisely is a black card, how does one get it, and how is it revoked? Is it something you get because of your race? Is it revoked when your actions run contrary to established dogma for that racial community? Is it more liberating to have a card or not have a card would you say?

I am sickened my our disallusioned black society, okaying this act. FIRST and FOREMOST she did not use it as a song reference she used it with the intention of categorizng the people she was with in the photo, thats like me having a photo of the holocaust with jews being burned, with the music phrase burn baby burn! Yes it is a musical quote but the intentions were not used for that purpose. Furthermore if we as black ppl dont stand up to something as little as the n-word being said b/c of fear of being called sensitive, actions such as the one in sanford with Trayvon Martin will continue to happen, BECAUSE IF WE DO NOT STAND FOR SOMETHING WE WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING

just because there are stars there doesnt mean the word isnt offensive. i dont care about her tweet i didnt even know what  she until you posted it. im talking about nas thinking he has the power to vouch for something that cannot be vouched for. no one should use the word or any variation of it written or spoken. everyone has a race card and the entitlements it includes which you are given when you are born. no choice in having one or not and no they can not be purchased sold or given. yes it would be more liberating if there weren't cards.and since such racial tensions and discrimination are everywhere and given human history and how this country was founded it cant be avoided. so you guys can have nas since he thinks he has permission to give someone to use the word which he doesnt. he wouldnt let G.P call his mother or grandmother one now would he?

Personally I think the use of the word should be squashed PERIOD. That said there are certain things that are given a pass for those of the same race and culture because they share the same experience. So though you don't like two sets of rules that's the way it is. You have rules for general society and then rules within your culture.

There are certain things each culture has (it's what makes them unique) be it latino, asian, african, arab whatever. There are somethings a person can accept from one's own that folks outside of that can't get away with. So just deal with it.

I think it is TOTALLY rediculous for black people to claim exclusivity to a word. You say "cool" white people dont' use the word in any conotation, but YOU can use it in any way you please? How childish can a people be? The only way it would be right for white people to never use the word would be for black people to never use it as well. If Jay Z can use it as a term of endearment, why can't Gwyneth use it in the same manner? I usually agree with Russell Simmons, but to stipulate that one can only use a word if they have a direct bloodline to slaves is beyond rediculous.

Are you kidding me? I have been black all of my life, and I know for a fact that black people use the word very frequently, in both negative and positive conotations. My point is it is ONLY a word. And I still think it is childish for black people to ban others from using it. I totally don't get that.

Yes, being born and raised in East Texas, I know the history of the word VERY well.
