'Private Practice' Season 6: Shonda Rhimes Talks The Show's Future And Tim Daly's Exit

'Private Practice': Not Done Yet?

"Private Practice" will return for a 13-episode sixth season and many have speculated that it will be the show's last, but series creator Shonda Rhimes indicated that it might not necessarily be the end. "I have been told that I'm not allowed to think of us only doing 13 episodes," Rhimes told TV Guide Magazine.

Series star Kate Walsh is only signed for 13 more episodes, according to Deadline, fueling the speculation as to the show's end.

Whether its 13 episodes or more, it's certain that Season 6 will look different since Dr. Pete Wilder (Tim Daly) will not be returning. Daly took to Twitter to announce his departure from the ABC medical drama in May.

Rhimes explained Daly's departure from the "Grey's Anatomy" spin-off. "There's a lot of budgetary issues on that show," Rhimes told TV Guide Magazine. "We need to make sure the show is viable and that we can produce it. I feel as though Tim's character had a wonderful journey."
