Pakistan Drone Strike Kills 4 Suspected Militants

Pakistan Drone Strike

RASOOL DAWAR   06/13/12 10:34 AM ET  AP

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistani intelligence officials say a U.S. drone strike has killed four suspected militants after firing two missiles at a vehicle in which they were riding near the Afghan border.

Two officials say Wednesday's attack occurred near Miran Shah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region.

It's the first drone strike since an American missile fired June 4 killed al-Qaida's second-in-command, Abu Yahya al-Libi.

The identity and nationality of the men killed Wednesday is not immediately known and the officials say their agents are trying to get more details.

Washington has pushed on with its drone campaign against suspected Taliban and al-Qaida operatives in Pakistani tribal areas, despite Pakistani objections.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

When a drone shoots down Airforce 1 and kills "a suspected terrorist" the American people will be outraged. Within 5 years every terrorist groupe will have a fleet of drones built by China and Russsia and guess who they will be shooting at???/ Iran will have atomic warheads on theirs.

My uncle worked in Peshawar Pakistan about 50yrs ago.
He was bricklayer, who specialised in refractory and
chemical brickwork, he owned the firm.
When over there he took films with his 9mm movie camera,
one of the films was an arms factory, outside the town.
They manufactured any type of gun or rifle, they could
copy any weapon.
The strange thing was, there was no electricity, the
lathe was powered by a man turning a large
stone flywheel, most parts were made by hand,
never/less they could make these weapons.

Then they didn't have to make them anymore because the USA gave them billions and military aid...since 1954 we have spent billions upon billions to support that Pakistan in the war with India which was backed by the USSR.

Only 4 suspects, surprised it was't another Al Qaeda leader. Isn't this racial profiling what Obama is doing?

This is the new war, people. Our guys don't get killed or maimed in battle; they get body parts blown off by some dipwit's IED planted along some public road, while the dipwit hangs out in some border area sanctuary preaching his diseased 'religion.' Without the drones, that would be the WHOLE war, a bit like Viet Nam, when our guys were attacked from sanctuaries in Cambodia and North Viet Nam. The drones have turned the tables, and I for one am fine with that.

Once upon a time we only worried about mosquitos dive bombing us as we enjoyed the great out of doors. There is no spray protection for the terrorists anymore.

Can anyone explain to me why the republicans are criticizing Obama for the use of drones? They seem so effective and reduce the likelihood of our troops being killed. Whose side are these politicians on? It's bad enough they're doing everything they can to keep our economy from improving, now they don't seem to want us to succeed in our wars.

You mean just like all the Democrats who cried about water boarding? Ironic that torture equal bad when a Republican does it but blowing the dog snot out of someone is fine when a Democrat does it. You see no hypocrisy here? By the way, I like the Drone strikes.

Liberal Democrats consider themselves exempt from hypocrisy. I happen to disagree about drones, reminds me of U2's over Britain killing civilians. That feeling should not be put on anyone non military specially woman and children. Soon many countries will have drones and used irresponsibly like we are doing it could be mass destruction of the world population.
01:27 AM on 06/14/2012
There are some differences. Water boarding is an intentional act whereas accidentally killing civilians near a terrorist target is not intentional. And those civilians are putting themselves in danger hanging out with Al Qaida. Water boarding is against the Geneva convention and doing so puts our own troops who may be captured at greater risk. There's a combat war going in Afghanistan and there is no war at Gitmo and the prisoners are under complete control there.

So Sorry Pakistan, there will be no more safe harbor for your continued support of terrorists. And I hope the U.S. soon comes to it's senses and cuts off all aid you've been receiving!
