DALLAS -- A Texas judge has rejected an imprisoned Manson family member's motion to prevent the Los Angeles Police Department from taking possession of tapes of decades-old conversations between him and his trial lawyer.

Federal bankruptcy Judge Brenda T. Rhoades ruled Wednesday that Charles "Tex" Watson failed to show why she should overturn the order allowing the LAPD to obtain the tapes.

Watson's current lawyer, Kelly Puls, filed a notice of appeal afterward and asked the judge to grant a stay pending the outcome.

The LAPD wants to see if Watson discussed any unsolved killings. Watson is serving a life sentence for his role in the 1969 killing of seven people.

The tapes were listed in a bankruptcy filing by the firm of Watson's trial lawyer, who died in 2009.
