Gregor Blanco Catch: Matt Cain's Perfect Game Preserved By Amazing Play (VIDEO)

WATCH: Amazing Catch Helps Preserve Perfect Game

Matt Cain's bid for perfection was nearly halted in the seventh inning when Astros center fielder Jordan Schafer launched a pitch deep into the gap in right-center field at AT&T Park. But San Francisco's right fielder Gregor Blanco was there to save the night.

Blanco sprinted back toward the wall, reached out with his right arm and made a diving catch. Able to hold on to the ball as he went to ground, Blanco jumped to his feet to show his ace he had bailed him out.

Cain raised his hands as the ball fell into Blanco's glove and then tipped his hat to his teammate. The 27-year-old retired the next eight batters en route to the first perfect game in San Francisco Giants history.

Cain also got some help in the sixth inning as well when outfielder Melky Cabrera ran down Chris Snyder's fly ball on the warning track. Behind every stellar pitching performances there is generally at least one breathtaking defensive play. Just ask Mark Buehrle, who knotched his perfect game in 2009 thanks to some help from an unbelievable catch in center field by defensive replacement Dewayne Wise in the ninth inning.
