It's been awhile since we've seen Narciso Rodriguez' designs donned on a big stage. The New York-based designer, though a perennial fave of actresses like Claire Danes, has been flying under the radar lately, at least in terms of our constant red carpet fashion credit scanning. Although, let's be honest: it's still hard to top the audience on election night 2008, when Michelle Obama wore his now-famous black and red frock as the world watched her husband win the presidential election.
But now, Rodriguez might have a chance to bring his FLOTUS-sanctioned prêt-à-porter back into the spotlight. Joining Michelle Obama fave Sophie Theallet in going budget, Rodriguez will be kicking off the fall fashion season with a capsule collection for Kohl's, Women's Wear Daily reports.
Kohl's is a noted fan of designer pairups, hosting lines for Vera Wang, Lauren Conrad and others. Rodriguez' collection will reportedly inaugurate Kohl's renewed interest in collaborations. (They've got good timing -- collabs continue to be super hot this year.)
Besides that iconic night in 2008, Mrs. O has donned Narciso Rodriguez's sleek, no-fuss designs on all sorts of important occasions, such as a Fourth of July event and a hangout sesh with British first lady Samantha Cameron. So obviously, we're buzzing with anticipation: will FLOTUS don Rodriguez' new budget line? (We already know she's an H&M fan.)
For now, check out what else Michelle Obama's been wearing this year. Could one of her other favorite designers be next in the collaboration game?
