'Page 1: Great Expectations' Showcases 70 New Designs Of Classic Text

70 Designers Take On Dickens

"My father's family name being Pirrip, and my christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip."

So begins "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. Though the words may be familiar, how they're presented completely changes your reading experience.

Enter GraphicDesign&, a London-based publishing house "dedicated to creating intelligent, vivid books that explore how graphic design connects with all other things."

For "Page 1: Great Expectations," they've gathered 70 graphic designers, including such industry big names as Pentagram, Ellen Lupton, Erik Spiekermann, and Jonathan Barnbrook, to design and lay out the first page of the classic book.

The fascinating range of responses help readers reflect on the intimate connection between medium and message. Take a look at some of the designs below.
