With June well under way, Chicago's summer festival season is too--and there's no shortage of events this weekend offering Chi-style fun out in the sun.
Each Friday throughout the summer, HuffPost Chicago will be sharing our five picks for that weekend's must-go festivals. This weekend we're in foodie heaven, with pizza AND barbecue taking center stage. Scroll down to see more of our mid-June picks.
Need still more options? The city maintains a relatively thorough calendar of neighborhood festivals throughout Chicago.
Have another favorite you'll be hitting up that we missed? Let us know in the comments.

Spring Awakening Festival
For the first time ever, Chicago will host a music festival devoted entirely to electronic dance music. At Spring Awakening Music Festival, concert-goers will have plenty of room to get down to beats from Skrillex, Moby, Diplo and more--the two-day event will be hosted at Soldier Field June 16 and 17. Chicago Pizza Fest
Thin, thick, shallow, deep: we all know Chicagoans have a lot of opinions about pizza. Fine-tune yours with a weekend spent sampling at the 3rd annual Pizza Fest. Sample some of the city's finest, sold by the slice or as whole pizzas, and cast your vote in the competition for the city's best pie. Not a pizza fanatic? Enjoy live music from the likes of Berlin, Too White Crew and more. (And catch a glimpse of the pizza eating contest Saturday.) 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17.
$5 suggested donation Flickr photo by Michael Bentley.
Taste of Randolph Street
Love music, food and Chicago's West Loop? We've got your weekend covered. Taste of Randolph Street, a food-centric celebration of some of the neighborhood's best eateries, will this year offer samples from BellyQ, Publican Quality Meats, De Cero Taqueria and more--enough to fill six blocks solid. Your weekend soundtrack is nothing to scoff at either. Acts performing at the fest include Los Campesinos, Hold Steady, and a DJ dance stage with spinners from some of Chicago's hottest clubs.
5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, June 15; 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 16; 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. Sunday, June 17
$10 suggested donation daily
Flickr photo by Zol87.
Correction: we originally reported the $10 suggested donation as an admission price. The festival is in fact free, but contributions are encouraged.
6 Corners BBQ Fest
Chicagoans love pizza, of course, and we'll defend our hot dog toppings to the death, but an oft-overlooked obsession in the Windy City is barbecue: nobody knows how to throw meat on a grill like us. Rib-revelers, rejoice: the 6 Corners BBQ Fest is back for its second incarnation this weekend. Celebrate Father's Day with ribs, burgers, hot dogs, chicken and more from some of Chicago's best BBQ restaurants, and bring along the kids--family-friendly activities including bouncing inflatables will be on hand.
12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 16; 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17
$5 suggested donation
Flickr photo by Bob n Renee
