Two suburban Chicago men were charged this week with allegedly breaking into a man's house and biting off part of his ear.

Cody Loeffelmann, 21, and Matthew Bryner, 20, of far southwest suburban Kewanee, allegedly forced their way into the victim's home at 12:45 a.m. June 5, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Police say the two then tried to stab the victim, held him down and then one of the men "bit of the top half of his ear."

The men allegedly fled the scene after the attack and neighbors alerted police when they heard the victim's screams, the paper reports.

The victim was taken to Joliet's Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, where it was determined that the bit-off piece of the man's ear could not be reattached, according to WLS. The intruders have been charged with aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful restraint and residential burglary, as well as vandalism.

The incident is reminiscent of an incident last fall where a Mesa, Ariz. couple returned to their home to find a man going through their possessions in their bedroom. The suspected burglar proceeded to bite off part of a man's ear.
