Dudepins: Another Pinterest Clone Desiring More Testosterone

Dudepins: Another Pinterest Clone Wants More Testosterone

Pinterest is massively popular and now massively valuable, with more than $1 billion in total value for shares and reports that it may be more effective in creating purchases than Facebook.

Yet for all its monetizable traffic, Pinterest has trouble shaking the label that it’s a social network that mainly appeals to women -- particularly those interested in fashion or wedding planning. Imageboard alternatives like Gentlemint and Manteresting have sprung up to appeal to a more testosterone-fueled demographic.

The latest pinboard for men is Dudepins, a site that's essentially Pinterest meets man cave. Founded by Colin Brown and Kamil Szybalski, two techies from Vancouver, the website urges users to "Man up. Sign up. Pin up."

Dudepins opened in May and has been growing at a rate of 30 to 50 percent per week, its creators told the Washington Post. Although its founders insist they've seen consistent growth, Dudepins may have trouble maintaining that traction, as the imageboard website market has become increasingly saturated.

And Brown and Szybalski admit that they hold veto power over any and all Dudepins posts, meaning the site probably won't venture far outside of their particular vision of "manliness."

A quick look at the “Trending” page on Dudepins presents what you might expect: pictures of a fridge full of beer, a steak, a Ferrari and a delicious looking bacon taco.
