Practicing medicine is more than just making a diagnosis and finding a cure, it involves the fundamental aspects of communication.
Concerned with the way younger doctors were approaching their patients, Dr. Remen created a course at the University of California San Francisco for medical students to focus on the communication between doctors and patients. Created 20 years ago, the course involves no text books and gives medical students a hands on lesson in communication.
"She teaches us how to listen, and do that with more openness," said Dr. Charlotte Carlson, a former student of Dr. Remen.
The course can now be found in medical schools throughout the country, teaching students the importance of communication. Watch the above video for more on Dr. Remen.
