Detroit -- Nearly 1,900 jobs are being eliminated at Detroit Public Schools in the upcoming school year as the district prepares to launch a new system of schools for a smaller set of students, according to a proposed $784 million budget released Wednesday.
After three years under state control and still carrying a legacy deficit of $81 million, DPS continues to close schools and cut staff in the face of declining enrollment and reduced funding.
