With quickly soaring temperatures and a heat advisory officially in effect, thousands of yoga practitioners are laying their mats to sweat it out in Times Square to celebrate the summer solstice on Wednesday.

The Mind Over Madness all-day event includes an Athleta Fashion show, music from Prasanna, giveaways and the most natural bikram session we can think of. Organizers explain:

Attendees will be challenged to find tranquility and transcendence in the midst of the world's most commercial and frenetic place, Times Square. Thousands of yoga enthusiasts will celebrate the longest day of the year (June 20th) with an all day yoga fest.

As we noted on Tuesday, since city pools don't open till June 28th, we urge you to check out New York's various beaches including Staten Island beaches, what (outgoing) Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe calls the city's best kept secret.
