Over the past several months, we've seen Will Smith accosted by an unusually amorous reporter on the red carpet, Kim Kardashian targeted in a "flour bomb" attack, and Ryan Seacrest covered with the faux ashes of former North Korean ruler Kim Jong-Il in a publicity stunt for Sacha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator."
While the above incidents struck us as bizarre, we're pretty used to seeing celebrities caught off guard on award-show red carpets, onstage at concerts or in other public settings. Here are some memorable occurrences in which stars have been pranked, accosted or generally surprised (pleasantly or unpleasantly).
Will Smith was promoting "Men in Black 3" in Moscow in May, when an overly affectionate TV reporter offered him a hug and attempted to kiss him. "Hey man, what the hell is your problem?" Smith exclaimed, and pushed him away, before slapping the man in the face. "He tried to kiss me on my mouth!"
At the 84th annual Academy Awards, Sacha Baron Cohen -- dressed as Admiral General Aladeen, his character from "The Dictator" -- spilled an urn filled with "Kim Jong-il's ashes" all over E! host Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, explaining that it was Kim Jong-il's "dream to come to the Oscars and to be sprinkled over the red carpet and over Halle Berry's chest." Seacrest later tweeted, "My mom always told me to pack two jackets for red carpets, always wondered why. Now I know."
Kim Kardashian had a run-in with a bag of flour while promoting her new fragrance, True Reflection, in March. The reality TV queen was covered in white powder by a woman in the hotel lobby. "That probably is the craziest, unexpected, weird thing that ever happened to me," Kardashian told E! Online. "Like I said to my makeup artist, I wanted more powder and that's a whole lot of translucent powder right there."
One Direction's Louis Tomlinson was snoozing in a Swedish hotel room at 5 a.m. in May, when he was startled by a naked stranger hovering at his door. According to a source, the intoxicated man wasn't a hotel guest and was simply looking for the loo.
Miley Cyrus was performing "The Climb" during a show in Australia in 2011 when an overzealous fan climbed onstage and grabbed the singer, before being stopped by security.
Justin Bieber pulled one over on tour mate Willow Smith in March 2011. While Willow, then 10, performed her infectious hit "Whip My Hair," Bieber's manager Scooter Braun and "swagger coach" Ryan Good donned candy-colored hair extensions and ambushed her onstage.
Beyonce was in for a surprise in 2006 when she dined at Nobu with two PETA members who'd won the meal in an auction benefiting VH1's Save the Music Foundation, and her dinner companions unexpectedly confronted her for using fur in her fashion line. According to TMZ, they also brought a portable DVD player to show an anti-fur video featuring Pamela Anderson, which included graphic footage of animals being killed for their fur.
Katy Perry had a minor freakout on the red carpet at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards when her interview was interrupted by some shirtless intruders in viking garb. "Who invited these guys? They're disgusting!" she exclaimed.
Demi Lovato was performing in Paraguay in April when one fan rushed the stage to hug the 19-year-old star. Others followed suit as security scrambled to curb the frenzy. One the situation was under control, Lovato returned to the stage and calmly instructed the audience to "chill out."
Jennifer Garner appeared understandably frazzled after Gary Busey accosted her and Laura Linney during a red-carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest at the 2008 Academy Awards.
