What a laughable thing for anyone to say.
I was born in 1951. I was a teenager when the Beatles became popular. And, I have been a fan of the Beatles since way back when they first arrived on the scene. I have never used any kind of illegal drugs. I have never even desired to do so. (OMG! I even listened to the Doors and Jimi Hendrix! I never realized how lucky I am to have escaped!!!!!!!!!!!)

They never listened to the Beatles or any other western rock music during the 60's or70's in
the old Soviet days, because western music was looked at as being subversive ,decadent and corrupt and it was officialy banned by the communists. When they started to alow western rock into the old Soviet Union it all fell apart.

Oh, come on! Drugs and drug abuse (including alcohol) have been around since time immemorial everywhere in the world; the Beatles had nothing to do with starting an epidemic of use. I guess this Russky never saw the 1930s movie "Reefer Madness", made 30+ years before the Beatles became popular!

The Beatles shaped their time but were also a product of it. They did encourage many people to take drugs albeit they never advocated drugs. Bob Dylan turned them on to weed, so I guess you could trace it back to him too. Yet, we even find drug use in the ancient Greek epics, the land of the lotus eater, so it seems odd to blame the Beatles. Bohemian artists took drugs before and after them.

I blame the 13TH Floor Elevators for coining the term "Psychedelic Music" when they came to San Franscisco in 1966.SF was a folk rockin City but after the Elevators it turned to harder psychedelic rock.
My favorite psych band and The Beatles were no influence at all for me.I liked elevators,Rolling Stones, Yardbirds,The Who..................Not a Beatles fan.

There were tons of really good rockin USA Garage Bands and then after The Elevators a slew of newer psych bands popped up.
The Beatles were just to clean sounding.Even my Conservative Mom liked a bunch of Beatles tunes..............
