President Barack Obama's reelection campaign released three new ads today, escalating attacks on Mitt Romney's outsourcing of American jobs while leading private equity firm Bain Capital.
The 30-second spots, which will air in battleground states Virginia, Ohio and Iowa, continue to brand the presumptive Republican nominee as an "outsourcer-in-chief" and borrow clips from Romney's state-specific "Day One" series of ads, questioning his promises to stand up to China and create jobs for American workers. Obama's ads are based on a Washington Post report last week that highlighted Bain's investment in companies that sent American jobs overseas.
"The Washington Post has just revealed that Romney's companies were pioneers in shipping U.S. jobs overseas," says the Obama ad narrator. "Investing in firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India."
Romney has campaign events scheduled in Virginia on Tuesday and Wednesday. Vice President Joe Biden will kick off his "Strengthening the Middle Class Tour" through Eastern Iowa on Tuesday, where he is expected to target Romney for shipping American jobs overseas.
Obama has taken shots at Romney since the Post article, criticizing his opponent's campaign for its defense that outsourcing and offshoring are different.
"Now, just last week, it was reported that Governor Romney's old firm owned companies that were pioneers in the business of outsourcing American jobs to places like China and India," said Obama while campaigning in New Hampshire on Monday. "So yesterday his advisers were asked about this and they tried to clear this up by telling us there is actually a difference between outsourcing and offshoring. That's what they said. You cannot make this stuff up."

At the heart of Mitt Romney's campaign is the competence he demonstrated while running Bain Capital. But this week at the heart of his campaign were Romney's claims about having not actually run Bain -- at least not from 1999 to 2002. What makes this particular time period significant is that during these years the private equity firm managed companies that were "pioneers" in outsourcing American jobs and steered multiple others into bankruptcy. The Obama campaign framed the inconsistency as "a big Bain lie" and suggested the GOP candidate had either lied to the SEC or to the American people. Romney insists he left Bain in 1999 to run the 2002 Winter Olympics. This week he takes the gold medal for his marathon sprint from his own record. You can tell he's been training: he shaved three years off his time at Bain.
On this Independence Day, demonstrate patriotic pride by deliberately buying American. Search for that "Made in USA" label. Pick the product that will create American jobs, the one that is an investment in an American company and the American economy.
Why not win the campaign on the issues -- and on President Obama's positions on the issues and his vision for creating jobs and economic recovery, which, in my view, are far superior to Romney's?
Outsourcing, is not necessarily sending jobs across borders. Outsourcing is hiring an independent janitorial service, rather than having janitors on your payroll. Outsourcing is having a payroll service rather that doing your own payroll. Outsourcing is hiring a plumber instead of using an internal maintenance team.
An outsourcing model is one where there is more opportunity for small businesses and self employment. An outsourcing model makes people more independent and provides for less centralized (read monopolistic) management. It creates more companies doing jobs more ways and inspires innovation.
To object to outsourcing is to favor trust style companies that have all trades necessary for the core job, maintenance of infrastructure and every other possible work tied to their internal management structure - controlled by policies set by a few directors or a ceo, with no diversity of interests, and most likely, a slimmed down middle tier of workers.
Outsourcing is good. To the contrary, Off shoring is not good. That is plain old sending money out of the country.

Now wwait a minute here... outsourcing? It's ahrder and harder to start new businesses here and will be even harder after Obamacare and the new tax laws come into effect. That will be the root of more outsourcing than we've ever seen. People can't afford to hire Americans. It's easier to start a company and have all the work done in Pakistan or China. Obama has done everything to halt progress in this country. Some of us won't be foolish to chase after pipe dreams a second time.

President Obama's jobs plan would put teachers back in classrooms and first responders back on our streets -- it's part of his plan to create up to a million new jobs that Congress left on the table last year.
But under Romney Economics, the priorities are clear: When it comes to firefighters, cops, and teachers, Romney says "it's time for us to cut back."
It's the same plan he enforced in Massachusetts as governor. Massachusetts officials who served during Romney's tenure have said how Romney's cutbacks didn't work for communities then, and how they won't work now.

anitaportrichey: President Obama's jobs plan would put teachers back in classrooms
Teachers and first responders do not have the jobs that create wealth, which is what the country needs. Hiring more government functionaries is not what is going to get the country back on its feet. Jobs in the private, productive sector is what is needed.
Leboazz: Teachers and first responders do not have the jobs that
Basically, one thing creates jobs and that is the demand for goods and services. When you pay teachers and first responders, they spend that money. That creates demand for goods and services in the private sector. The private sector hires people. Those people spend, creating more demand for goods and services. So more people are hired, and that is how our economy really grows.
And all these new workers, if they are paid reasonable wages, pay taxes!
That is why the Republicans cutting government workers DECREASES private sector jobs also. If the demand for goods and services is down, more people lose their private sector jobs.
The real "job creators" are the middle class and poor who spend money, creating demand!
Many companies are sitting on huge amounts of cash right now, but they will NOT
hire unless there is demand for their goods and services. Giving them even more money will NOT itself create jobs!

Mitt Romney believes that if you take away protections for consumers and workers and cut taxes even more for the wealthiest Americans, the market will solve all our problems on its own. We tried that approach over the last decade, and it benefited a few -- but it also crashed our economy and hurt the rest of us. It didn't create good jobs or pay down our debt -- it caused the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
We don't want to go back to that.

The Washington Post reported that "Mitt Romney's financial company, Bain Capital, invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India."
This is the same guy that goes around the campaign trail talking a huge game about being able to protect American jobs by standing up to foreign countries like China. But now we know that Romney and his partners made millions while sending American jobs overseas.
Romney's support of outsourcing didn't just happen in the private sector. As governor of Massachusetts, he vetoed legislation that would have banned companies from shipping state jobs overseas -- and he actually outsourced state jobs to a call center in India.
In contrast, President Obama has a jobs plan that could put up to a million people back to work -- including teachers, cops, firefighters, construction workers, and veterans -- help small businesses create jobs right now, and help to put an end to American jobs being shipped overseas. He's also fighting for tax breaks for companies that bring jobs back to America.
Mitt Romney is fighting for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas -- the type of companies he ran in the private sector.
This isn't just a policy position for Romney, it's his economic philosophy -- and it's his record.

If I were Obama, I'd fire the ad agency that came up with this attack ad. Many tv viewers, when any ad comes on, change channels or hit the mute button. Let's see, I muted the ad after the first couple of sentences. What I've picked up from the ad is that Barack Obama approves of "President" Romney standing up to China. Mistake #1: giving Romney the title of President. Exactly, when did he take the oath of office? #2: leading with a positive statement about Romney. The other ad does the same thing with "President" Romney and "fewer worries". Duh? I guess it requires more brainpower than the Obama ad agency possesses to lead with, "Romney says if elected, he'll stand up to China." or something similar.
This ad misfires on several levels, for example, using the Washington Post as the "voice of authority" doesn't really resonate with middle Americans since they don't read the "inside the Beltway" paper. Also, anyone familiar with investment firms like Bain capital knows they buy up "failing" firms. If a company fails, jobs are lost and not created in the US, China or anywhere else. Obama's money could be better spent on ads more thought out than this one.
sugarcreekchile: If I were Obama, I'd fire the ad agency that
As long as Obama's inept ad agency keeps reminding Americans that "President" Romney is just waiting in the wings to make their fiction fact. No one's ever accused Obama of bringing the brightest or the best onboard.

In his State of the Union address two years ago, President Obama argued there were a few things the U.S. needed to do in order to recover from the economic recession. One of them was to export more of our goods around the world.
"The more products we make and sell to other countries, the more jobs we support right here in America," Obama said.
That night, the president unveiled a new goal: to double U.S. exports over the next five years. It would be an increase that the president said would "support two million jobs in America."
Most economists dismissed the pledge at the time as somewhat quixotic, but two years later, the U.S. is on pace to meet that goal. American exports are up 34 percent since the president gave that speech, and the number continues to rise.
I can understand why Obama's natural constituency would accept his take on Romney's record of outsourcing jobs at Bain. Romney is at least the enemy you know. Obama on the other hand pretends to be a friend--espousing liberal causes (gay marriage, the temporary relaxation of deportations of illegals, etc.), but at the same time he embraces free trade agreements which will cause more jobs to hemorrhage from America than a thousand Bains combined.
