B.J. Novak is leaving "The Office" as a full-time regular.

According to TV Guide Magazine, Novak, who has been a writer and star on the series since it began, will depart the long-running comedy as a series regular. However, he is expected to make recurring appearances and could also write and possibly direct episodes during Season 9.

Novak's departure isn't the only change for Season 9. Mindy Kaling is leaving the series for her own show, "The Mindy Project," on Fox. James Spader is also leaving "The Office" and Catherine Tate is joining the show as a series regular.

Paul Lieberstein, who plays Toby and serves as "The Office" showrunner, is leaving the series to focus on the Dwight spin-off starring Rainn Wilson. Greg Daniels will return to the series as showrunner, according to TV Guide. Meanwhile, after much speculation Ed Helms, Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski are set to return for Season 9.

"The actors are all prepared to come back, we're just waiting for NBC to pull the trigger on that," Fischer told The Huffington Post in April.

Before NBC officially renewed "The Office," there were rumors of a reboot with new characters joining the series. "The Office" returns to NBC this fall on Thurs., Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. ET.
