How I Gained It: Years of fast food, bad eating habits and eating whenever and wherever.

Breaking Point: I didn't want to be the fat kid or have excuses any more and blame things I couldn't do on my weight. The little side comments or jokes by peers hurt, but mostly once my XXL T-shirts or my size 44 waist pants weren't fitting me, I knew I had to change.

How I Lost It: A strict diet that changed as the process went on. When I started, I would only eat cereal in the morning, fruits for snacks, a sandwich for lunch and eggs for dinner. I would do about 45 minutes of bike riding around my neighborhood six days a week. Along the way, I increased my cardio to about 90 minutes of running around my neighborhood and changed my diet to absolutely no carbs other than fruits, so chicken, beef or fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus small portions of cheese and fruits as snacks. As time went on, I worked up to over two hours at the gym with cardio, weights and sauna six days a week. I am still very limited on carbs. Along this seven-month journey I rarely cheated on my diet.

Now I don't eat fast food at all, but I still love the food in my diet. That keeps me happy and my confidence has changed a lot -- I get motivating comments and lots of people telling me how I've inspired them. I'm able to do things I couldn't before. I feel faster and lighter. I went from XXL T-shirts to a large, and from a 44 waist to a 34. I have a very strong willpower, a desire -- I never want to get back to 300 pounds.

He is missing one main food group in his diet. I see nothing listed for vegetables, which are a superb way to round out a proper diet. Glad he lost weight, but he still needs to improve his diet foods list.

Ridiculous headline to the article though... it wasnt quitting the fast food that he lost 115 pounds. He lost the weight by working out 6 days a week.

There are MILLIONS of thin Americans who eat fast food. Fast food alone doesnt make you fat. Working out is the ONLY thing that will help you lose weight, if you dont increase your metabolism, salads will make you gain weight also.

Problem is with dieting is the elimination of one food group. You can eat rice and bread you have to limit portions. Fruits technically aren't counted as good carbohydrates because they are simple sugars. The former are complex.

He looks great! And Huff Post appears to have finally fixed the problem of the stretched out pictures at the end of these articles that made it difficult to tell just how good people looked after their weight loss.

Well, that's weird. These weight loss stories, the pictures at the end used to always appear ridiculously stretched out on my computer. This is the very first time the pictures have appeared normal, yes even the one with the KD shirt. Others like you have commented that they are distorted this time. Don't know how Huff Post pulls that one off, making them appear normal on some people's computers and distorted on others. Strange!

Yep my thyroid is shot - been on meds for about 8 yrs - went on the fruit & veggie diet, exercise, cut out a lot of dairy, eat more nuts, - lost right off the bat 18 lbs and then came to a screeching halt and not lost nor gained anything since Jan. - very disconcerning and not much better when docs tell you that it is super hard to loose weight and keep it off when your thyroid doesn't work - sadly tho I gained about 75 lbs in 3 mo. before anyone realized it could be my thyroid - really hard to stay on this diet and do exercises when you see no losing effect. Just leveled out and nothing more....:(

That's the problem with conventional doctors and medicine.

Google "unreliable inaccurate thyroid blood tests" and you'll see that the tests that they use are not helping to get patients the right thyroid meds. I'm going to start taking natural thyroid supplements and I'm going to see if I can find a naturopath or an unconventional endocrinologist who can help.

Miss those whopper sandwiches? Try my whopper salad! 2/3 head of romaine lettuce, I tomato,
1 1/2 quarter-pound beef patties, (cooked and diced) 2 tablespoons Miracle Whip! Makes a huge salad, that gives you lots of chewing time, making you feel less deprived. I add 1 cup of raw baby spinach, which has no flavor, but packs a lot of nutrients, esp. those that fight macular degeneration!

Wow, I happened to have everything I needed to try this salad for lunch (except the spinach). YUM! That is definitely a keeper! I didn't even use the whole 2 tablespoons of Miracle Whip because as much as I love it, I find a little goes a long way for me. However, yum, yum, yum on the rest of it, especially with two tomatoes just picked from my garden. Oh and I added in a little chopped raw sweet red onion. Thanks for the great recipe and healthy meal idea!

You're very welcome! There are many ways to substitute for favorites. My daughter loves ice cream and sherbet. Instead, I eat frozen blueberries, strawberries, etc. Craving chocolate? Melt dark chocolate to make a dipping sauce for strawberries or bananas! Youi still get the chocolate, but good nutrition, too!
