This video, from a zoo in Yalta, Ukraine, has started making the viral rounds via Buzzfeed and The Daily What. Although the baby tigers are adorable and the clip lauds their birth as a special occasion, reactions are not what you might expect.

No. What is there to celebrate about the artificial breeding of mutants that cannot survive in the wild?

Glorifying these unusual creatures hides the fact that they a human whim, not a natural product of evolution. They may have arisen from a natural mutation, but their continued existence is entirely artificial, just like the numerous deformed creatures known as special dog breeds.

The gene for whiteness is also linked to several deformities that make the lives of these creatures abysmal. As the population is repeatedly inbred, these deformities become more common and severe.

But dog, cat and horse breeding has for so long been seen as a "worthy" art that the cruelty of refining breeds is no longer seen as animal abuse.

If you google for "White tiger" you will probably find sites which profit from this cruelty, but if you also add the word "gene" you will find out about the abuse.
