When Sony is done selling "The Amazing Spider-Man," a reboot-cum-remake of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man," the studio will move on to an actual remake: "Total Recall," the 1990 science-fiction film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Total Recall" is out in theaters on Aug. 3, and while its first trailer only offered passing reference to the original feature, the latest promo goes all out. You wanted an alien temptress with three breasts -- you got one!
The rest follows suit as pretty much the "Total Recall" you remember, only without Schwarzenegger's hilarious performance as a centerpiece or Mars as a venue. Colin Farrell is the Schwarzenegger stand-in here, with Kate Beckinsale taking up the roles played by Sharon Stone and Michael Ironside in the original. (Bryan Cranston, and his wig, play the villain.) It all feel very familiar and very corny ("I give good wife"? What?), which means it could very well be a perfect "Total Recall" remake. "Give the people ay-er," and all.
