Forty-two years in Congress, regardless of party affiliation, is way too long...Being a Congressman or Senator wasn't intended to be a full-time career. Jefferson said do your civic duty and return to the farm...Obviously Charlie, and about 534 others in Congress, don't hear the cows calling them home...

Illegal Aliens tried to vote for Espaillat, most of the Dominican population are illegal aliens and cannot vote. These are sour grapes. The fact is the Hispanic/Latino voting population is not large enough to win a major race alone,especially since Puerto Ricans voted for Rangel, he is half PR. Congressman Rangel had the Black, Puerto Rican and UpperWest side votes that's what gave him the win.Mr Espaillat did not reach out to other groups, regrettably Hispanic/Latino politicians aren't trusted by many folks, especially Black people for good reason one could argue.

Yes because he as many American Black
citizens have proved our loyalty to America,despite America doing all she can to destroy us. He also have delivered for his constituents and he inclusive. Rangel didn't call this race the empowering of any one group. Mr Espillat because he ran on Dominican support only and although NYC is a sanctuary city, illegal aliens still cannot vote.The major of Hispanics/Latinos are in NYC illegally.

I live in Rangel's district.
And I sure as HELL didn't vote for him.

I've taken my GrandFather's historical view of Rangel with his concerted effort to get rid of Adam Clayton Powell. And the fact that Rangel had left Harlem and its residents the victim of gentrification and big business.

Don't get me started on those apartments he's "rented" at Lenox Terraces.

But I didn't vote for Adriano Espaillat either.
Espaillat's problem was that he spent more time catering to the Latino (primarily Dominican) vote, disregarding others populations in the newly drawn district. He already (to an extent) had the Latino vote shored up. So this would have been a perfect opportunity to introduce himself (and his future policies) to others within the district.

Honestly, I never saw him beyond Washington Heights.

It was a pretty weak field of candidates anyway.

The quotes in this piece are all, or nearly all, from Espaillat's folks, who are naturally unhappy, and suspicious. Were no other sources available to talk to the reporter? The "liberal group of activists" scheduled to march in DC somehow go unnnamed, though the story goes on for 3 pages. Wonder if the name, coupled with a little googling by readers, would tie that group to Espaillat as well?

"Politico" is almost like journalism. Almost.

Charlie Rangel should have taken a page from Obama's book.When the Democrat party wanted Obama in the state Senate it just hired lawyers to disqualify both the current incumbent as well as both other challengers.It's easy to win a race when no one else is on the ballot.

Why do you insist on making the same grammatical error over and over again? "Democrat" is a noun. "Democratic" is an adjective. The proper usage is "Democratic Party". I know you on the right think the use of a noun modifying a noun is somehow insulting. What it actually is is evidence of your ignorance. Go back to elementary school and learn how to diagram sentances.

Well even that is questionable. Word is, he may have some tricks up his sleeves that he's been using for a while now like using names of dead people, etc. Still, things like that have no place in polite society.
