San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has been stabbed, according to the Sacramento Bee. The 49ers confirmed that Smith suffered from "minor" injuries and was taken to the hospital after an incident that, per the Bee report, occurred at a house party near San Jose, Calif. on Saturday where two others suffered gunshot wounds.
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea tweeted that Smith has been treated and released from the hospital. Maiocco also reported that, citing multiple sources, Smith sustained the injuries while attempting to break up a fight.
"We are in contact with Aldon, and thankful that his injuries were not more serious and that he is recovering comfortably," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "The 49ers are also in communication with local authorities as they gather information regarding the incident, and will reserve further comment at this time."
Smith, 22, has found himself in the news for the wrong reasons earlier this year. Just days after the New York Giants beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, Smith was arrested for driving under the influence in Miami Beach.
