The East Village's newest darling of a restaurant, <a href="http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/nyc/9113/The_new_Calliope_knows_from_good_butcher?ref=huffPo" target="_hplink">Calliope, knows from good meat.</a> The restaurant's husband-and-wife chefs, Ginevra Iverson and Eric Korsh, source from Soho's fabled Pino's Prime Meats for dishes such as braised lamb neck and an aged strip steak served with rafts of butter.
Forager's City Table
Forget Caesar salad. Instead, try the fermented tea-leaf salad at the new <a href="http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/nyc/8908/Our_favorite_dish_at_Foragers_City_Table?ref=huffPo" target="_hplink">Foragers City Table in Chelsea.</a> Plated as a beautiful dune of shredded lettuce surrounded by six small circles of toppings: peanuts, sesame seeds, crisp garlic slices, fried yellow split peas, miniature dried shrimp and a paste of salt-fermented tea leaves, it's our salad pick for summer.
The best no-fail food field trip you can take this summer is just an <a href="http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/nyc/9066/Three_very_good_reasons_to_take_the_PATH_train?ref=huffPo" target="_hplink">easy jaunt across the Hudson River to Jersey City.</a> Fantastic foods such as reimagined potato skins <a href="http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/nyc/9027/chefs_recipes/Fingerlings_get_the_welcome_mat?ref=huffPo" target="_hplink">(click here for the recipe)</a> at Thirty Acres await. The restaurant is improved all the more by its BYOB program.
We can't help ourselves: we can't quit the <a href="http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/nyc/8924/ZirZamin_brings_the_best_of_Austin_to_Soho?ref=huffPo" target="_hplink">Austin-style chile con queso at Soho's new ZirZamin.</a> The excellent $7 burger and strapping tequila drinks keeps bringing us back too.
It's official: <a href="http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/nyc/9164/After_14_years_Babbo_throws_open_its_doors_for_lunch?ref=huffPo" target="_hplink">Babbo is lovely at any time of day.</a> Make a reservation now for the restaurant's newly-introduced lunch service to enjoy the midday meal as it was meant to be experienced (with an appetizer of favas and mint and a main of black spaghetti with bottarga).
