Am I just terribly old-fashioned, but isn't it a teensy bit illegal to convert the flag into articles of clothing, etc.? This 4th I saw some bozo wandering around in flag-patterned shorts, oblivious to how tacky he looked.

I wish people knew that American flag apparel is technically illegal.
So that backwoods Bubba that thinks that flag burning is the worst insult ever, might want to rethink that flag-themed t-shirt with the BBQ and Budweiser stains.

Lets not go the "illegal" route, just bad taste. This goes to my attitude towards flag burning etc,. tacky, stupid, but protected free speech and I fully stand behind anyone who does it, as long as it is their own flag and does not endanger people or property by setting something else on fire or having a gooey mess left over from the melted material.

My point is that the people who go apoplectic when they see a flag on fire, are almost always the ones leaving their flag out at night or the people that hang it on the wall horizontally, rather than vertically.
If people are going to flip out, they should get their house in order first.
