'Hawaii Five-0' Casts Christine Lahti As McGarrett's Mother

'Hawaii Five-0' Casts Oscar Winner As McGarrett's Mom

McGarrett's believed-to-be-murdered mom on CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" now has a face: Christine Lahti, the Oscar and Emmy-winning actress, will join the reboot in Season 3 in the role.

McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and audiences alike were shocked at the end of the "Hawaii Five-0" Season 2 finale when he found himself face-to-face with the mysterious Shelburne, who turned out to be the mother he thought was dead. When Season 3 picks up, Lahti's character, Doris McGarrett, will be a key player. The actress will recur in Season 3.

"The mysterious character of Doris McGarrett is a pivotal one to the mythology of our show," "Hawaii Five-0" executive producer Peter Lenkov said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have a seasoned and beloved actress such as Christine to portray her. She's a wonderful addition to the 'H50' family and the fans will certainly enjoy what we have in store for her. Let's just say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree."

Lahti, who earned her first Oscar nomination for "Swing Shift," has also won an Emmy for her portrayal of Dr. Kathryn Austin on "Chicago Hope." Her starring role in The WB's "Jack & Bobby," her recurring character on "Law & Order: SVU" and her performance in TV movies like "Amerika" have also earned her multiple award nominations.

"Hawaii Five-0" Season 3 returns to CBS on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET in the fall.
