This seems like a more efficient way to find people who would like to listen to their message in some ways.
09:44 AM on 07/05/2012
But will it stop them bothering the vast majority of people who have no interest whatsoever in their message?

Agreed, as former Mormon door-knocker (LDS missionary) I know the limits of door to door tracting. It can work but Suburban culture has changed in recent decades making the idea of people knocking on your door seem like a nuisance (when it use to be cherished). It is equally awkward for salesmen and even Girl Scouts. I've also had mixed results Christmas caroling.

If the Mormons decide to have Mormon baptism of Facebook does that mean everyone on facebook is indoctrinated into Mormonism? This is what they did to Anne Frank.

The article doesn't explain the obvious though.

The Mormons could have 2 million LIKES - that doesn't equate to two million wanting to be contacted by the Mormons - most would be Mormons LIKING one of their own sites.

But on the good side - I for anything that gets a cult member off of the road. Probably the realization that in the future Missionary numbers will shrink as more and more younger generation Mormons are discovering the truth on the internet, and leave the cult.

I remember reading some of you other posts on other Mormon related articles. Your comments are almost always unoriginal but not in the same left or right-wing talking points kind of way. You say Mormonism is dwindling because of the internet. I believe the internet has actually done more good than harm since it is used for more than just proselyting, it is also used by the Church as a tool for reactivation and retention. Also the internet and its lies, half truths, and distortions (what you call truth) has helped destroy positive faith among all Churches. I wish you well and desire everyone's faith in Jesus Christ and reliance on His glorious atonement to increase.

I'm surprised Facebook let the Mormons use the facility to Proselytise. Particularly as one of the co-founders of Facebook recently married his husband... While the Mormon church is doing all it can to prevent Marriage Equality globally.

Sorry, Facebook is tolerant of all faiths, political groups, and businesses, even if they disagree on things.

And very inaccurate. Made by Ed Decker a professional anti-mormon known for fabrications, half-truths, and sensationalism.

...and the Catholic Church hired a Fox political consultant to help them with their PR. I think that people are moving away from religion in general and they are trying to capture the new generation. The problem is, no matter how you package it, crap will remain crap.

Oh, I've run into this before. Some people think we shun technology like the Amish! Might I point out that not only do we embrace technology, members of our church have been great pioneers in in it and the church itself uses it quite a bit. The Church's website, LDS.org is an amazing website from a technical point of view. Take for example the scriptures hosted on the site, a member can log in and highlight and annotate passages in them and then while on the road pull out the Gospel Library app on their phone/tablet and view those same annotations. You can also watch/listen/read the general conferences all the way back to 1971, or even watch a live stream of one the first weekend of every April and October.
There is a lot more available on the church's site, and that's just one method in which the church uses tech to help its members.
