When she was six months pregnant and already in labor, doctors told expectant UK mother Alex Jones they couldn't find her baby boy's heartbeat and he would be delivered a stillborn. The 21-year-old Jones, already a mother of one, was told to consider funeral preparations for the child she'd already named Cohan.
After nine straining hours in labor, reports The Daily Mail, Jones delivered a tiny baby -- weighing a mere 1 pound, 11 ounces. And to the shock of medical staff, Cohan was breathing and wiggling his toes, leading doctors to call him a "miracle baby."
"It was the most amazing thing -- I was told my baby had died and to prepare myself for a stillborn delivery," Jones told The Daily Mail. "Me and mum were talking about organizing a little plot for him and where he would be buried... Everyone was shocked that he was breathing. No-one was prepared for it."
Staff immediately whisked Cohan to intensive care units where, according to The Mirror, he spent the next five months battling infections and a clot on his brain.
Now, Cohan has just celebrated his first birthday, and is described as full of life. "When I hold him in my arms now I can’t imagine my life without him," Jones told The Mirror. "He is so beautiful and I am so proud to be his mum.”
According to Cafe Mom's The Stir, Jones believes her son's tiny heartbeat was too small to register on the doctor's equipment.
