We spend lots of time focusing on what stars wear (and any wardrobe malfunctions they may have), but what about what they put on their faces? Although makeup may not seem all that important, plenty of women won't leave home without it.
In a survey, two-thirds of British women said that heading to the office bare-faced caused them more stress than public speaking, going on a first date or enduring a job interview. 91 percent of women surveyed would rather cancel a first date altogether than go without makeup on. And in the U.S., women spend around $7 billion on cosmetics every year.
With all that beauty-obsession (and our own love of makeup) in mind, we present our weekly look at This Week In Beauty showcasing the best, worst and most interesting styles of hair, makeup and nails from the past seven days. Take a look, get inspired and vote for your faves!
BEST: Katy Perry
Katy Perry is the queen of va-va voom, so leave it to her to fete Fourth of July with a pair of Americana falsies! Perry looked absolutely stunning at the European premiere of "Katy Perry: A Part Of Me" in an elegant golden dress. She donned a pulled back 'do and a golden headband that matched the embroidered details on her frock... and topped it of with wild eyelashes.
WORST: Nicki Minaj
By now we're used to Nicki Minaj's doll-faced, absent-eyed look. But the singer showed up to this year's BET Awards with a strangely pared-down look, working a solid lip with heavily lined eyes. Oddly enough, we weren't digging it...
BEST: Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba looked like a vixen at the Versace Haute Couture Show in Paris on July 1st. The hot actress would've blown us away with her leather dress alone, but flawless makeup and hair took it over the top. The smoky eye + the nude lip = perfection.
WORST: Demi Lovato
We understand that Demi Lovato is trying to go for an edgier, punk rock look, but on "Good Morning America" on July 6th, something just wasn't working. The singer's soft makeup, pink lip and matching ombre hair clashed with her giant collar necklace and studded shoulders. In the end, she looked a little like a young Britney... trapped in Rihanna's clothes.
BEST: Selita Ebanks
Although her dress may scare us a little, we have to admit that we love the model's makeup choices at the BET Awards on July 1st. Selita matched her dramatic dress with a dramatic eye, strong eyebrows and a simple nude lip. Top it all off with a simple half pony tail and loose curls and this look was utterly relaxed and natural.
WORST: Ivy Queen
The Queen of Reggaeton has always had a penchant for extreme beauty looks, and her look at Univision's "Despierta America" concert on July 6th was no exception. The singer replaced her long, blonde locks with an edgier red 'do, which is actually refreshing. But considering we can see her eyebrows peeking out from under her shades, we can say that they are way too high -- and the white eyeshadow on the brow bone makes them look even higher.
BEST: Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger looked chic at the Chanel Haute Couture show on July 3rd. Pairing a beret with a baby blue dress was tres Parisian, but the best part was her simple makeup and a bold red lip. Magnifique!
WORST: Christina Hendricks
We love Christina Hendricks so we were a bit let down by her beauty choices at the Versace Haute Couture show this week. The actress's signature red hair looked a little messy with limp curls, and we would have loved to see a strong, red lip. Next time, Joan.
