Nominations for the 2012 ALMA Awards—which honor the positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment field—have been announced, and this year's 65 nominees exemplify the terrific year Latinos have had in music, television and film.

What's most encouraging about this year's batch of nominated musicians, actors, reality TV stars and movies, is that they represent a wide spectrum of projects big and small (indie movies like Eva Mendes' "Girl In Progress" and the Emilio Estefan/Martin Sheen father-son tale "The Way," are nominated alongside studio films like "Puss In Boots"), while Oscar-nominated performances (like Berenice Bejo's charming turn in the Best Picture winner "The Artist") are nominated alongside movie star performances in popcorn flicks, like Cameron Diaz ("What To Expect When You're Expecting"), and female performances in popular indie movies: Aubrey Plaza ("Safety Not Guaranteed") and Penelope Cruz ("To Rome With Love").

There are also plenty of A-list stars nominated at this year's awards. In addition to Diaz and Cruz, A-list nominees include, Salma Hayek ("Savages"), Zoe Saldana ("Colombiana"), Eva Mendes ("Girl In Progress"), and Eva Longoria ("For Greater Glory"), and on the men's side, Benicio Del Toro and Demian Bichir ("Savages"), Andy Garcia ("For Greater Glory"), and Martin Sheen ("The Way").

In the TV categories, nominees include Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family"), Sara Ramirez ("Grey's Anatomy"), Constance Marie ("Switched At Birth"), and Lauren Velez ("Dexter") and on the men's side, Oscar Nuñez ("The Office"), Rico Rodriguez ("Modern Family"), David Zayas ("Dexter"), and Hector Elizondo ("Last Man Standing").

Latinos are killin' it on reality TV, so it's not surprising that there are so many great nominees in that category, including Jennifer Lopez ("American Idol"), Christina Aguilera ("The Voice"), George Lopez ("Take Me Out") and William Levy ("Dancing With The Stars").

And, this year's list of nominees also proves that the future looks bright for Latinos in Hollywood, as several young Hollywood stars are up for awards, including celebs like Victoria Justice ("Victorious"), Diego Boneta ("Rock Of Ages"), Bella Thorne ("Shake It Up") and Michael Trevino ("The Vampire Diaries").

The only notable snub among the group is Selena Gomez, who should've been nominated not just for Favorite TV Actress, Comedy ("Wizards of Waverly Place"), but also for Favorite Female Music Artist.

Still, this list proves that Latinos have had a great year in entertainment, from reality TV to scripted shows, to popcorn movies and Oscar-nominated performances.

The 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards will air on Friday, September 21st on NBC and this year fans can vote for their favorite stars online at ALMAAwards.com.
