Attention, America! The nation's favorite regional dishes are again being Denny's-ified as part of the chain's new Tour of America summer promotion.
A Denny's release has all the details:
The Midwestern Meat and Potatoes Sandwich and the Philly Cheesesteak Omelette are back by popular demand and five new celebrated state dishes debut including: Brooklyn Spaghetti & Meatballs, Southern Slam, Malibu Fish Tacos, Florida Sunshine Salad and Red, White & Blue Pancakes Breakfast.
Diners with a sweet tooth may enjoy Denny’s new Strawberry Pancake Puppies® with Cream Cheese Icing or the deliciously indulgent Apple Crisp Milk Shake Parfait, offering the perfect all-American end to any meal. Or for a summer treat refreshing at any time of day, guests can sample the new Red Raspberry Smoothie, also available in kid’s size.
The promotion launched June 5 and will be available all day, every day for a limited time.
Last year, HuffPost offered a taste test of some tour offerings. Of the returning dishes, the Midwestern Meat & Potatoes Sandwich fared best with a solid "B" rating. The dish is a doozy with grilled prime rib, wavy-cut French fries, brown gravy, mayo and melted Swiss and American cheese all inside a single Cheddar bun.
The Philly Cheesesteak Omelette wasn't so lucky with a rating of "C-." The reviewer took issue with the lack of sliced meat in it, and its resemblance to the Midwestern Meat & Potatoes sandwich.
The promotion is a part of Denny's "50 State Challenge," which offers one guest the chance to win several loyalty-based rewards, including Gram Slam breakfasts for life. Diners are encouraged to check in at the restaurant chain's locations across the country using a mobile app for Droid and iPhone users.
The challenge will be online for one year, with the first person to prove with check-ins that they've eaten in 50 states declared the winner. There'll be other prizes along the way.
