ATLANTA -- A builder says it will construct a home addition at no charge that's designed to help with the rehabilitation of a Georgia woman who's been battling a flesh-eating disease.

Executives with Pulte Homes of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., say its workers and partners are volunteering to construct the two-story 1,956-square-feet addition to Aimee Copeland's suburban Atlanta home. Company officials say the addition, expected to be completed within 40 days, will include a new bedroom, a fitness room for rehabilitation and a study area.

The 24-year-old suffered a deep cut May 1 when she fell from a broken zip-line over a west Georgia river. She then contracted a rare infection called necrotizing fasciitis.

Doctors amputated her leg, foot and both hands. She's now recovering at an east Georgia rehabilitation center.

Nice, very Nice! I just hope someone comes and helps them with the energy cost to keep it up if they don't have the money for the utility bills, because this young woman is reallly really something else.

God bless you Aimee!

I'm glad to see she's getting some help. Whether or not the family has money isn't going to make their ordeal any less painful. There will always be somebody who needs help, and I don't think it should be based on whether they have money or are attractive. I'd just like to see more of these stories. People helping people. Well done, Pulte Homes of Bloomfield Hills, Mich!

I'm definitely glad she's getting help, but I really wish vets who are amputees or uninsured cancer patients, for example, would get the same support from the community.

Such a beatiful, generous, kind gesture on the part of "Pulte Homes of Bloomfield Hills, Mich." and their volunteers. This young lady has touched the hearts of so many people..and many who have never met her. She is such a courageous person, to say the least. May G-d continue to bless her and her family.

I'm glad she is home. Will modern prosthetics be able to give her a relatively normal life? I've seen some amazing artificial legs on television and at marathons, but I'm not sure about how helpful artificial hands will be. It will be difficult to do so many things without hands.

Some real progress has been made in recent years. My guess is that there will be several companies step forward to help in this young woman's case.

I think that we can be sure that there is a way to get up to the second level. Maybe an elevator?

The addition of two stories is to keep with the layout of the home as it is now for it is already a two story home and to add all she'll need to rehabilitate and put in in one level would not add to the house. Also, with all she'll need, and a bedroom is included, the property restrictions my have them at limited land use. THIS story is a heart warming one for Aimee shows such marvelous courage and has a positive outlook of inspiration. Blessings to her and her family and PULTE builders also.

What a lovely, compassionate show of support.

I wish the ignorant press and media would stop calling this a "flesh-eating" disease....it is a bacterial infection that proliferates fast and destrpys skin and fatty tissue which offers little rrsistence...all infections do this to some degree if left untreated...the fatty tissue has no natural barriers to stop in and is made up uf 98% water...not much to hold back any infection....

I agree. That term is disturbing and inaccurate. We'
re not idiots HP, we don't need attention grabbing catch phrases. Just give us the news in a halfway intelligent manner please.

The bacteria "consumes" healthy flesh.

How are bacteria classified according to the production of organic material for the energetic metabolism?
Most bacteria are heterotroph, they do not produce their own food.

Does that sound better to ya ?
