Cruise was on set in Iceland when the news broke, and now he's hard at work filming "Oblivion" in June Lake, Calif. The ring has come off and a divorce settlement has already been reached, but the actor is "still tremendously saddened and shocked about the divorce. Tom is obviously relieved that the settlement was reached, but is still sad, obviously," his longtime lawyer Bert Fields told RadarOnline.
Much has happened in a very short time and Cruise has yet to see the couple's 6-year-old daughter, Suri -- of whom Holmes was reportedly granted primary custody, as part of the settlement.
With Cruise back in the United States, insiders close to the 50-year-old actor told E! News that he's making arrangements to see his daughter as soon as he wraps filming, which could be as early as this weekend.
Cruise's lawyer confirmed to RadarOnline that the actor does have plans to see his daughter very soon:
"I don't know exactly when that will be, and I couldn't tell you, but I do know it will be very soon. Tom loves his Suri very, very much, as he does his other two children. Tom is a family man, and dedicated to his children. They are the center of his world," Fields told the website.
Though Cruise was reportedly blindsided by the divorce filing, things between the couple have remained remarkably civil. The same can't be said of tabloid magazines, who according to the Associated Press, have sided with Holmes. The split has boosted magazine sales and there are some publications who aren't playing nice.
Cruise's lawyer has threatened to sue the National Enquirer over a cover story that alleges the actor is a "monster" who "abused" Holmes and subjected Suri to a five-month stay in a "tiny, windowless room," reports The Hollywood Reporter.
On July 11, Fields sent an angry letter to the National Enquirer's publisher, American Media, in which he claims the magazine's cover story -- headlined "Tom's House of Horrors" -- is "disgraceful and lurid" and will cause the actor "hundreds of millions of dollars of professional and personal damages, for which we intend to hold American Media, and everyone who participated in the perpetuation of this scurrilous attack, jointly and severally liable."
