Mike Williams made a remarkable comeback to the NFL in 2010 when he hooked up with Pete Carroll, his coach from college, with the Seattle Seahawks.

Williams will have to find someone else to give him a chance now. The Seahawks announced this afternoon they have released the 28-year-old wide receiver. He was due to earn $3 million this season.

Originally a first-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions, Williams made only 37 receptions for them in two seasons. He bounced to Tennessee and Oakland and was then out of the league for two years before Carroll helped him resurrect his career.

Williams made 65 receptions for 751 yards and two touchdowns in 2010. But he slumped badly last year, catching just 18 balls for 236 yards despite playing in 12 games and making 10 starts.
