A trio of studies in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrate that Truvada, an anti-retroviral drug already on the market, can prevent new HIV infections when taken daily. Hmm, not sure how I feel about this...on one hand this is great to lessen anyoone getting this horrible disease...but if it encourages more poor self control ( I won't even get into morality) I'm not sure it's such a good thing. Don't know this is hard...

OK.....so as I've always advocated, let's put more funding into a cure! This drug, while it's a step in the right direction is not fool proof. For one thing, it hasn't been said that all insurance companies will cover may not this. At $13,000 a year for this drug, not everyone will be able to afford it! Not everyone will be able to adhere to the strict regiment it takes! And once one takes it they will never be able to get off of it, (more money for Big Pharm), because if they do, and suddenly become infected with HIV, their bodies will be immune to this drug, therefore making one less proven drug out of their reach!
While I applaud the researchers for this outstanding work, bottom line is that no one will be safe until there is a definite cure. And for all my brothers, and sister (IN THE WORLD) suffering with this, I hope the cure is coming soon!

who wants to take a pill everyday with all kinds of side affects, just so they can have sex when they want without "protection" does it protect people from other STD's?
the virus will probably build up some weird resistance to it and just make matter worse.
people took antibiotic for years just to keep from getting VD and that is one the reason we now
have antibiotic resistance diseases.

Every advance in this fight is encouraging, but the most promising treatment yet developed to prevent the spread of HIV has been around for years and has gone by various names. It was first marketed as Noassatol.

90% sounds good but each time you have sex it doubles your chance you will get HIV,and by the way this product has medical side affects.All for just 1000 dollars a month.I remember when AIDs first became known some gay groups ignored it,most died as a result.

This information has been known for a long time. The dreaded "needleprick" situation that happens fairly regularly in hospitals comes with the standard anti-viral prescriptions if the needle came with someone who may be afflicted with HIV. I do find it interesting that Truvada is being marketed to be prescribed on a monthly basis. HIV drugs are extraordinarily expensive and our cost for Truvada per month without insurance is almost $900 a month. Wonder who will be picking up the tab for this... besides the good ole taxpayer of course :-)
