The courts need to get involved with these Republican tactics and rule them un-constitutional and a violation of the Voters Rights Act

Jeepers, one would think Eric Holder would be leading the charge to make sure military votes are counted. The AG seems obsessed with maximizing voter participation as evidenced with his recent lawsuits against any and all voter ID laws. On the other hand, like Gore did with FL military absentee ballots in 2000 or the recent DOJ lawsuits against states submitting late military absentee ballots in 2010, perhaps Holder wants only to protect the rights of voters most likely to vote Democrat.

You can count on the rubepublicans to take a poll of how the military tends to vote before taking a side on this as with all other voting issues. If voter suppression is needed to win so be it! Isn't that what patriots do?

Voter ID Laws are Resurrecting the Spirit of Jim Crow

My Monday column was a rundown of the most insidious voter purges and Voter ID laws coming from various Republican governors. The lede is deadly serious.

If President Obama loses in November, it won’t be Super PACs or Republican lies about his record that will defeat him. It won’t be fundraising or advertising or punditry. If President Obama loses, it will almost certainly be due to Jim Crow style voter suppression and disenfranchisement. And no one is really talking about it.

Specifically, I’m referring to the Republican plot to make voting nearly impossible for low-income, working class Americans, and, therefore, disenfranchising scores of Democratic voters.
