"The Daily Show" has been keeping a close eye on Mitt Romney's tax return story, namely the fact that he won't provide the public with more than a few years' worth of documents.

The Obama campaign has suggested Romney has something to hide, while other camps are stating more plainly that the lack of disclosure "just looks bad."

On Wednesday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart took Romney and his conservative supporters to task, starting first with some sarcastic empathy:

You can't release your returns, 'cause if you do the Democrats will be mean to you. I see your concern. These Obama people, whatever you release it'll never be enough. They'll just keep hounding you and hounding you with frivolous transparent demands like...

He then went on to roll a clip reel of Conservative after Conservative requesting obscure documents from Obama and speculating as to why they hadn't been released. Documents like school transcripts and proof of his editing the Harvard Law Review.

It's almost as if Birthers are getting a taste of some similar -- albeit more conventional -- medicine.

"If democrats did want to be dicks about Romney's tax returns, the Republicans have given them a master class in how to do it," Stewart joked.
