Just months after winning election to the Pawnee City Council, Leslie Knope is already storming the White House. "Parks & Recreation" filmed at the White House complex on Thursday, the Vice President's Office confirmed to LA Times correspondent Kathleen Hennessey. Though it's unclear exactly where they filmed, the White House complex includes the Oval Office, West Wing and outdoor spaces like the Rose Garden and Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
HuffPost DC reported Wednesday that Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Chris Pratt and Aubrey Plaza had landed in DC to film the sitcom's Season 5 premiere. The show's DC filming schedule was posted online by the Office of Motion Picture and Television Development, but the White House complex location was not included on the itinerary.
The episode, titled "Ms. Knope Goes To Washington," seems likely to focus on Leslie's boyfriend Ben Wyatt, who accepted a D.C.-based job as a political operative in last season's finale. According to TV Guide, Senators John McCain, Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe will make cameos in the episode.
President Obama revealed at a March fundraiser that his oldest daughter Malia is a "big fan" of the show.
In a May interview with HuffPost TV, "Parks" creator Mike Schur joked about the prospect that Leslie Knope could one day running for president. "I don't think the show will be on the air long enough," he said. "Season 21 -- if we beat 'Gunsmoke,' then maybe she can be president. She's an ambitious person and she's trying to move up the ladder in her chosen career path so I don't think she's going to be content just being a city councillor forever."
