Day one of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 starts off with a show by Lisa Blue and the official kick-off party at The Raleigh Hotel -- and I manage to find my way to a couple of other parties, all in the name of celebrating Mercedes-Benz Fasion Week Swim.
There’s no way around it, but it’s the middle of summer in South Florida and the heat and humidity is something I can’t ever get used to but do my best to prepare for. With a fan, water, and hair pulled back, I wear flats and breathable fabrics and carry a bag where all my credentials are easily accessible just to make my adventures go smoothly and easily during this fast moving week.
The first show is at 7 p.m. at the tents and it’s freezing inside, but an opportunity to cool off and get work done by phone and post the happenings. On the front row, I spot Christina Milian, and Brooke Burke and David Charvet are sitting side by side where photographers swarm over them before the show.
Lisa Blue is entertaining to say the least. The show starts with a slow-paced goddess theme with the Enchantress collection. Then Karina Smirnoff of "Dancing With The Stars" brings up the beat and sets off Latin vibes as she’s dressed in Flamenco pieces; then a dragon appears for the third installment of the show. The headpieces are a huge crowd-pleaser.
Outside poolside, the kick-off party is in full swing with Moet & Chardon Imperial Ice. After a while, we took off to the SLS Hotel for not only my first look inside -- it just opened! -- but for the Omega Boutique party. To my surprise, Miami Heat star Chris Bosh and his wife Adrienne are in attendance, both sporting watches each worth over $3,000.
Ending the night: the Ocean Drive party at the Delano (no camera, but we twittered away!). Models are in the pool dancing to the music in Nanette Lapore swimsuits. It feels like another Thursday night on South Beach with cocktails flowing, girls in bikinis in the pool and socialites and local celebs enjoying the party.
Day two will begin Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the Penthouse of The Raleigh Hotel with Eclairee presentation. Tip for those going: carry a hand fan, hydrate, ladies take a pair of flats and enjoy. I’m off to Swim! -- Jipsy
