It's not every day you get to watch dancers caper around a museum gallery. But last Thursday, celebrated dancer-choreographer (and Natalie Portman's husband... ) Benjamin Millepied took over Los Angeles' Museum of Contemporary Art.

Millepied, founder of the newly-formed Los Angeles Dance Project, teamed up with famed Los Angeles artist Mark Bradford in a multi-disciplinary performance piece throughout the gallery where The Painting Factory: Abstraction After Andy Warhol is currently on display (several of Bradford's painting are featured in the exhibition).

The 25-minute piece, Framework, featured Millepied and fellow dancer Amanda Wells careening throughout the gallery, atop Rudolf Stingel's wall-to-wall carpeting, dancing in front of various paintings. The surrounding audience, nearly touching the dancers, trailed them as they moved from room to room. Millepied and Wells were accompanied by violinist Mayumi Kanagawa as well as a pre-recorded soundtrack of Bradford's reflections about art.

All in all, the performance was a layered evening of movement, dialogue, music, and of course, paintings--bursting outside the "Framework," if you will.

The performance (which will repeat on August 2 and 9) serves as a kind of prelude to the L.A. Dance Project's premiere performances in September at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
