Legendary musician Sir Elton John is visiting Washington to raise awareness about AIDS. He was a keynote speaker at the International AIDS Awareness Conference on Monday, and, that night, appeared at an event with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others. The Human Rights Campaign, the Global Equality Fund and the Elton John AIDS Foundation honored them at this event.
“The AIDS disease is caused by a virus but the AIDS epidemic is not," John said at the conference. "It is fueled by stigma.”
CORRECTIONS: An earlier version of this story indicated that one of the organizations honoring Clinton and John was the Global Equity Fund. It is the Global Equality Fund. Additionally, due to a wire error, this post initially referred to the event as an "AIDS awareness" event. It was a Human Rights Campaign event.
