Adoption is a complicated process to maneuver with lots of paperwork and other headaches to deal with. But often overshadowed is the emotional side of the story, both for those hoping to adopt and those mothers faced with the decision to give up a child they'd just birthed. It was this dilemma that was tearing 25-year old Mary apart on the premiere of "I'm Having Their Baby" (Mon., 11 p.m. ET on Oxygen).
Mary was looking at giving up her baby in an attempt to save her marriage. She and her husband of five years were separated at the time of filming, and the baby she was carrying was the product of her own extramarital affair.
"I had, like, a lot of shame about having an affair, and it’s like I didn’t even feel worthy of being his mom," Mary said of the baby boy.
But once she held him in her arms, she knew she could never give him up, even if it meant giving up her marriage.
"Being a single mom isn’t ideal, but the love that I have for my son is enough for two parents and then some."
