Katie Holmes' split from her movie star husband, Tom Cruise, rocked the celebrity world in late June, and while we've already heard from the actress in an interview before the split, we now get a glimpse of Holmes in an interview conducted just a day before she filed for divorce.
Holmes covers the September issue of C Magazine, and she met with senior editor Kelsey McKinnon on June 27 to discuss her career and family, though according to McKinnon, it's now clear Holmes wasn't exactly gushing about Cruise the way she has in the past.
WWD has an excerpt from McKinnon on the odd timing of her interview with Holmes:
“Going back over the tapes, there were signs: Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand,” McKinnon wrote. “Most noticeably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription.”
One thing that was clear from Holmes' interview is that she's ready to get her career back on track -- something that seems to have taken a backseat since she became Mrs. Cruise.
"I'm ready to take on some more challenging roles," she told the magazine (via E! Online). "I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences. I feel more balanced and like I have more to bring to the table. I always felt like I wanted to catch up [in my personal life] to what I was doing [in my career]."
