A star-studded Larry David movie could be coming to HBO. The premium-cable network has acquired the rights to a film project from the "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator that stars David, Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton, according to an exclusive report from the L.A. Times' Steven Zeitchik.
The project was originally going to be released in theaters by Fox Searchlight. But Searchlight was "unprepared to match HBO's budget ceiling." Although Zeitchik cautions "deals are not done," he reports that talks between HBO and David are underway that will "probably" end in an agreement.
The TV-movie could be a great move for "Mad Men" star Hamm, who's spent the last few years making a bevy of cameos in comedies ranging from "Bridesmaids" and "Saturday Night Live" to "30 Rock" and Funny or Die videos. The prospect of him as a vehicle for Larry David dialogue could be hilarious.
Then again, the last feature film David wrote was the forgotten 1998 comedy "Sour Grapes."
David's HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm" just earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series and could still return for a ninth season sometime in the future, but this movie likely pushes back that timeline.
