• New York Gay Marriage First Anniversary Celebrated

NEW YORK -- One year ago, New York became the largest and most influential state where gay marriage is legal, raising supporters' hopes that it would boost national momentum and pump money into the state with a flurry of weddings from Manhattan to Niagara Falls. As the anniversary nears Tuesday, the law's effects are noticeable if hard to measure. Thousands of same-sex couples have wed across New York, but it's unclear just how many, partly because marriage applicants aren't required to identify themselves by gender. The wedding business is up, but some planners in New York City say it's not booming. Read the full story here.

  • Two Men Are HIV-Free After Undergoing Bone Marrow Transplants

Two men with HIV no longer have detectable blood levels of the virus after receiving bone marrow transplants for their cancers, according to news reports. "We expected HIV to vanish from the patients' plasma, but it is surprising that we can't find any traces of HIV in their cells," one of the researchers, Dr. Timothy Henrich, of Brigham and Women's Hospital, told ABC News. The network reported that the men received the bone marrow transplants while also being treated with anti-retrovirals. Usually people with HIV are taken off their anti-retrovirals before cancer treatment, NBC News reported. The finding "suggests that under the cover of anti-retroviral therapy, the cells that repopulated the patient's immune system appear to be protected from becoming re-infected with HIV," Henrich told ABC News. Read the full story here.

  • Target Releases Same-Sex Wedding Registry Ad

A number of bloggers are praising Target's new same-sex wedding registry ad -- but is it enough to quiet naysayers' doubts about the megabrand's seemingly contradictory stance on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues? The ad features two formally-dressed men holding hands with the slogan: "Be Yourself, Together." Among those to applaud Target's effort was David Badash of The New Civil Rights Movement, who called the ad, which comes on the heels of the company's line of LGBT Pride T-shirts as well as same-sex wedding cards, "kinda awesome." Read the full story here.

Scotland's government has announced plans to legalize same-sex marriages. Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Wednesday that legislation permitting the marriages would soon be introduced. When enacted, Scotland could become the first part of the UK to allow same-sex marriages. • Stephen Colbert Rips Santorum, Huckabee For Supporting Chick-Fil-A

The Chick-Fil-A anti-same-sex marriage story is still rolling at full steam, and while some late night hosts found a little levity in the situation, Stephen Colbert was more interested in how politicians were handling themselves on Thursday night's "Colbert Report." "Recently, homosexuals have been threatening a sacred union between a company and its customers," Colbert joked. "Come on! It's AT&T, not AT&Steve!" Luckily, GOP figures like Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee have spoken out in support of the fast food chain, taking what was already an unusually-political food conversation and making it even more political. "After all, you are what you eat. And now you also believe what you eat," Colbert joked. Watch the full clip above.
