We spend lots of time focusing on what stars wear (and any wardrobe malfunctions they may have), but what about what they put on their faces? Although makeup may not seem important, it can be controversial and plenty of women won't leave home without it.

In a survey, two-thirds of British women said that heading to the office bare-faced caused them more stress than public speaking, going on a first date or enduring a job interview. 91 percent of women surveyed would rather cancel a first date altogether than go without makeup on. And in the U.S., women spend around $7 billion on cosmetics every year.

And that doesn't even include hair. The AP recently reported that in 1950, about seven percent of women dyed their hair. Today? 95 percent or more.

With all that beauty-obsession (and our own love of makeup) in mind, we're taking a look at This Week In Beauty. From this week forward, we'll be showcasing the best, worst and most interesting styles of hair, makeup and nails that we came across this week. Take a look, get inspired and vote for your faves!

  • BEST: Gwen Stefani

Singer, fashion designer and all-around awesome person Gwen Stefani knows how to channel her No Doubt days while keeping her look modern and chic. We love Sefani's cat-eye sunglasses at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on July 22nd, paired with her signature red lip and side parted hair. Awesome...just awesome. (Getty photo)

  • WORST: JWoww

JWoww has made our "worst beauty" list twice in a row. This week, our alarms sounded when the reality TV star appeared at Ab Cuts Sleek's in-store event in Beverly Hills on July 24th with an abundance of white makeup on her face. White makeup can be instrumental in highlighting facial features such as the brow bone and cheekbones. However, white makeup + a very light lip color = too much pale makeup! (Getty photo)

  • BEST: Eva Marcille

Former "America's Next Top Model" contestant Eva Marcille looked sun-kissed and sexy at a TCA Summer Press Tour event on July 24th. We love Marcille's sexy cat-eye makeup and bronze blush, which went well with soft lips and her signature, platinum hair. (Getty photo)

  • WORST: Rebecca Black

"Friday" singer Rebecca Black appeared at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on July 22nd with very vibrant, red ombre hair. The thing is, it was a little too vibrant and it made her hair look plastic-y and unnatural. We just don't like it. (Getty photo)

  • BEST: Susan Sarandon

The Academy Award winning actress looked elegant at the NYC premiere of "The Campaign." We love her natural looking locks and simple makeup, which went perfectly with her summery, multicolored dress. Sarandon chose a lipstick that matched the patterns on her dress and went well with soft, pink blush. The 65 year-old actress really knows how to dress age-appropriately and still look chic! • WORST: Kathy Griffin

Funny lady Kathy Griffin was at a filming of "Extra" in Los Angeles on July 25th looking a little...overly made-up. Although the comedian didn't go with bright eyeshadow, lipstick or even blush....she went with a lot of foundation (which strangely seems to match the color of her hair.) We would advise Griffin to use less foundation, which makes wrinkles and lines more visible when caked on, and maybe try a bright lip color to tone down the redness of her face. Next time Kathy... • BEST: Alicia Hall

Model Alicia Hall looked gorgeous at the television premiere of "Family Time" on July 24th. We love her giant, Chanel hoops which she wore with a completely pulled back up-do and sexy makeup. We love her very thin cat-eye liner with brown eyeshadow and soft, bronze, sculpting blush. Our favorite aspect of Hall's look may have to be her lipstick, though. Hall achieved an ombre effect by using lip liner to shape her lips and then filling them in with a matching red lipstick, while leaving some lip unfilled. Love love love. (Getty photo)

  • WORST: Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado accomplished a completely opposite look as Alicia Hall when she overdid her cat-eye and used different colored lip liner and lip gloss. Instead of looking edgy or sexy, Furtado looked kind of scary at the Self Magazine 'Rocks The Summer' event on July 24th. (Getty photo)

  • BEST: Selena Gomez

We're not going to lie, we've been loving Selena Gomez's beauty looks lately. The singer's long hair looked great straightened with a slight ombre effect at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on July 22nd. Gomez looks sweet and sassy in pink and we're glad that she dresses her age. Perfect for the Teen Choice Awards! (Getty photo)

  • WORST: Melissa De Sousa

Actress Melissa De Sousa made us cringe at the television premier of "Family Time" on July 24th. She looked washed out and her false eyelashes looked out of place because she wasn't wearing lipstick. Lipstick would have fixed De Sousa's beauty error. Always wear lipstick! (Getty photo)
