Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough Spar Over Dick Cheney's Name (VIDEO)

WATCH: Matthews Gets Heated Over Dick Cheney's Name

Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough sparred about Dick Cheney in a strange exchange on Monday's "Morning Joe."

Cheney recently appeared on ABC News' "This Week," where he said that McCain made a "mistake" choosing Sarah Palin to be his running mate. On Monday, Scarborough asked Matthews what he made of the interview.

Matthews said that the correct way to pronounce Cheney was "Chin-ney." When Scarborough said that he could pronounce it however he wanted, he insisted that Scarborough was wrong. "No, no," Matthews protested. "His name is 'Chin-ney.'"

Scarborough replayed a clip of Cheney's interview and threw it back to Matthews, whom he joking referred to as "Mee-thews."

"No, it's not a joke," Matthews replied. "If we all check it out, we'll know what we're talking about instead of just me knowing what I'm talking about. When you report these things, Joe, you should give the right answer. Do some reporting."

It is an argument that Matthews has been known to make. Later, he did not mince words about Cheney.

"I think he's pretty much hated in this country," Matthews said about the former vice-president. "People really don't like him. I can't believe they're going to show him at the convention." He added that Cheney appeared on a Sunday morning show as a "proof of life thing" to show that he was still "in the game."
