The MJO has been in a strong positive anomaly over North America and the tropics. ( http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/vpotgifs/am_ir_monthly_60E_1.gif ) That looks to be changing. I am thinking if it goes strong negative we could see storms pop everywhere like in mid June. Strong fluctuations are associated with weak la nina and neutral ENSO conditions.
