'NY Med': Man Eats Metal, Has Nuts And Bolts In His Stomach

If it weren't a reality series, people might have a harder time swallowing the story of a man who eats metal than he apparently did. The latest "NY Med" (Tue., 10 p.m. ET on ABC) featured the story of a man who came into the hospital with what one ER nurse described as "Home Depot in [his] abdomen."

"It’s just awkward that I’ve swallowed nuts and bolts and I’m lying on a bed with 16 of them," the man said. It's a compulsion he doesn't understand that leads him to eat metal. His story would fit well on "My Strange Addiction," with this episode serving as the cautionary coda revealing the potential medical dangers of eating metal.

According to the episode, the man was able to pass the metal he'd consumed naturally the first time he went to the emergency room, but this time he needed surgery.

"NY Med" keeps it real (and a little freaky) all summer long on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
